Instead of individual pieces of living room furniture we proposed raising the floor and building a sofa alcove that pulls out to form a fully upholstered platform for any occasion celebrating the vast sunsets. Invisible Doors . Westchester Vacation Home Redesign by KDP Design . The client wished to enhance the sleep-over capacity for short term guests. The house was built in true 70s style high ceilings architecture, allowing for mezzanine additions. We wanted to provide a dramatic experience of the LR space and its height by inserting an open staircase and balcony. Two bedrooms received either a mattress mezzanine or a full second floor as a sleeping den, accommodating space for 9 adults in addition to the original 3 queen size beds on the ground floor. The master bedroom kept its original layout but received a glamorous wall decor, referencing nature. Roof Patio Access . Bed Stuy Brownstone The detail rich 5-story historic jewel of a townhouse was fully intact but needed a complete overhaul of floor planning and finishes. The main feat was to extend the building’s footprint into the backyard, providing generous open kitchen/dining with veranda and access to the yard. A separate garden apartment and roof patio access with inserted skylights maximize living areas. The client looked for a new design of the 1950s lobby and entryway to rebrand the 192-unit residential complex, which had a diminished identity from numerous renovations. The large co-op building is situated in a dramatic landscape with views of the George Washington Bridge and the Palisades across the Hudson. It is within strolling distance to the historic Fort Tryon Park. Proposing to bring these points of interest into the lobby while deepening and contemporizing the 1950s vernacular became the object for creating an elevated experience in the space and location. Rigorous stripping away of superfluous elements while reinstating authentic architectural detail was complemented by KDP designed furnishings for a fresh look onto the period. The recalibrated space set the stage for a meticulously curated art commission by KDP.
